About Bette Sloane

Hi! I’m a born-and-raised New York girl with a camera in one hand, a passport in the other, and a deep desire to prove that math and art are not mutually exclusive.

I've made it to six continents so far—Antarctica is just playing hard to get—which is approximately 85.7% of the world if you're into fractions and wanderlust.

My favorite subjects to photograph are landscapes far and away and people near and dear. My penchant for travel has gifted me with vistas to photograph that I’ll just never get to see in NYC. When I’m not hopping on a plane or planning my next trip, I’m photographing people in their natural habitat: laughing, loving, and occasionally bribing their kids with snacks mid-photo session. I specialize in capturing engagement shoots, new babies, families, and headshots, and I aim for photos that feel like you—but with better lighting.

By day, I teach high school math with a twist: I integrate art wherever I can. Think less “chalkboard equations” and more “wow, there’s a lot of geometry in that mosaic!” I’ve got a BFA in Photography (SUNY New Paltz), an MA in Math Education, an EdM in Curriculum & Teaching (both from Teachers College, Columbia University), and a serious passion for helping students connect the dots between creativity and logic.
